Mr. G. M. Kakpori, who is the promoter of Caravan Travels & Tours, has a Masters Degree in Biological Sciences and is a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society of London. A native of Ladakh, he has been associated with J&K Tourism for about 30 years in various developmental, promotional & administrative positions. He was the 1995 PATA - Foundation scholar from India for advanced studies in tourism management at heritage sites and Nature Reserves in the UK under the aegis of the English Heritage, the National Trust for Scotland and the Scottish Tourist Board. He is widely travelled in UK, Europe & within India in connection with the study and promotion of tourism. Earlier in his career as a young tourism professional, G. M. Kakpori was responsible for the initial survey, exploration and introduction of the then little known parts of Ladakh including the Suru & Zanskar Valleys for trekking and cultural tourism from 1976 through the early 1990’s during a decade-long field posting as the Regional Tourism Officer of the area.

G. M. Kakpori now heads Caravan Travels (Caravan Travels & Tours), an indigenous travel management agency based at Leh, providing authentic travel solutions to the discerning tourists for exploring Ladakh & beyond. In this enterprise he is supported and assisted by his son Sohail M. Kakpori, alumni of Welham Boys School Dehradun & Delhi University. Sohail is an avid sportsman, an amateur rock climber and a trekker in the Ladakh hinterlands. He looks after the operations part of Caravan Travels as well as the logistics of Hotel Caravan Centre, the agency’s sister concern.
