Tour - 6: DISCOVER THE SHANGRILA
Tour Route : Leh-Indus Valley-Alchi/Lamayuru Circuit-Nubra Valley-Pangong Lake-Tsomoriri / Tsokar Circuit.
Duration : 11 nights / 12 days
This tour is designed to provide an opportunity for the explorer in to travel across the entire region of Ladakh, covering all the high altitude lakes, the various valleys formed by majestic mountain ranges, sampling various features of the rich culture and the living heritage. It is a veritable discovery tour of the Shangri-la, which offers the grandeur of a natural retreat to the hassled and overworked city folks to break away from the routine city life and to embark on a voyage of discovery of an amazing region.
ITINERARY
| Day-1 |
Arrive Leh by morning flight and transfer to the hotel. After welcome drink / tea / coffee at the hotel, take complete rest for acclimatization to the high altitude of Leh (11,500 ft / 3500 mtrs). In the late afternoon visit the city centre for leisurely walks in the markets for general orientation. Overnight at the hotel. |
| Day-2 |
After leisurely breakfast, proceed on a full day sightseeing & cultural tour of Shey Palace, Sindhu Ghat, Thiksey Monastery, Hemis Monastery & Stok Palace Musuem. Overnight at the hotel. |
| Day-3 |
After breakfast leave for Lamayuru (127 kms.) which is believed to be the oldest site where a Buddhist monastery was founded during the 11th century AD. Lamayuru monastery is famous for the spectacular setting with the unique ‘Moonland” hills forming its backdrop. After sightseeing & lunch here drive back on the Leh road till Uleytokpo / Nurla and then check-in at a fixed camp / hut camp. Dinner & overnight at the camp / huts resort. |
| Day-4 |
After breakfast drive towards Leh, enroute visiting the 11th century Alchi Choskor, oldest surviving monastic heritage of Ladakh- a UNESCO listed heritage site. Thereafter drive back to Leh, enroute visiting the 15th century Likir monastery, Sangam (confluence of Indus & Zanskar Rivers), Magnetic Point, Gurudwara Pathar Sahib, Kali Mata (Temple of Guardians in Spituk monastery) & Hall of Fame (museum of Military heritage culture). Overnight at the hotel. |
| Day-5 |
After breakfast leave for Nubra Valley, driving across Khardong-la (alt: 18,380 ft.), highest motorable pass in the world, recorded in the Guinness Book of World Records. After descending from the pass, drive on for sightseeing of Samstaling Monastery in the Sumoor area. Later check- in at a fixed tent / hut camp in the same valley OR drive across to Deskit / Hundar for overnight stay in a camp or a hotel. Dinner & overnight at the camp/ hotel. |
| Day-6 |
In the morning, drive to / explore Deskit (headquarters of Nubra), Hundar and the Sand Dunes. You can enjoy a short camel safari amidst the sand dunes on the double humped Bactrian camels (optional). In the afternoon return to Leh, en- route visiting the dramatically located 15th century Deskit monastery. Overnight at the hotel. |
| Day-7 |
Early departure for Pangong Lake (approx. 150 kms), via Chang-la pass (alt: 17370 ft./ 5486 meters)-3rd highest motorable pass in the world. Pangong Lake (alt: 14,500 ft.) is 4-5 kms wide and about 140 kms long, of which about two-third lies on the other side of the Indo-China border. After sightseeing around the lake, drive back to Leh, reaching in the evening. Overnight at the hotel. |
| Day-8 |
Leisurely day at Leh day for rest after the long journey to Pangong Lake. In the afternoon visit Shanti Stupa, Sankar Gompa, Leh Palace & the markets. Overnight at the hotel. |

On this day, you can also opt for an exciting half-day Rafting trip on the Indus river between Phey and Nimu (if water level is adequate) OR on the Zanskar River between Choktsi / Chiling & Nimo (optional-). |
| Day-9 |
Leh-Tsomoriri / Korzok (15070 ft. / 220 kms.)
Early departure for Tsomo-riri Lake (alt: 15,000 ft.) driving past Chumathang (hot springs), Mahe Bridge and Puga Sumdo. Tsomoriri Lake (28 km long & about 8 km wide) is the breeding ground of many migratory birds including the rare bar-headed geese. The village & monastery of Korzok located on the banks of the lake is the only settled population in the area which is otherwise roamed by the nomadic Changpa tribes. Dinner & overnight in fixed tent camp or Guest House. |
| Day-10 |
Tsomoriri-Tsokar-Taglangla-Leh (17582 ft.)-Leh-approx 200 kms):
After breakfast retrace the route till Puga Sumdo and then follow the road to the Polokongka (4920 mtrs), a tabletop pass which leads to Tsokar Lake, a salt lake system in the Rupsho area, home of the Changa nomads and support many rare wild life species. After sightseeing of the area, take the Manali-Leh road to return to Leh, en-route crossing the Taglang-la pass (alt: 17,585ft) Overnight at the hotel. |
| Day-11 |
Free day at Leh for rest & recuperation from the long journeys. In the afternoon you may visit & explore the markets at your own pace for shopping etc. Overnight at the hotel. |
| Day-12 |
Early morning transfer to the airport for taking the homewards flight. |

- Sequence of the day-wise tour program as listed above may change depending upon availability of suitable accommodation at different places and other travel conditions.
- Overnight staying option in the Nubra Valley is mainly in tented accommodation or standard hotels with facilities which may not be of the same standard as in the hotels being used at Leh.
- Overnight staying options at Pangong Lake & Tsomo-riri Lake are mainly in tented accommodation with limited facilities. Visitors must be prepared to pass the night at a place where temperature may be quite low even at the height of the summer. The stress of passing the night at high altitude is also to kept in mind.

- Accommodation on twin sharing basis as per itinerary in the hotel / camps listed under the tour package or similar.
- All meals buffet on fixed menu (Breakfast, hot OR pack lunch & dinner). Option for half board available on request.

- Sightseeing / excursion by independent non-A/C MUV Taxi (Scorpio /Toyota Qualis / Tata Grand / Tavera or similar vehicles).
Note: The vehicle provided for the tour is for sightseeing on point–to-point basis as per the itinerary and not on disposal basis. The driver is NOT a guide.
- Protected Area permit & wild life fee for visiting restricted / protected areas.

- No refund for any un-utilized service of the package.

- Any expense incurred or loss caused by reasons beyond our control such as bad weather, natural calamities (landslides, floods), flight delays / rescheduling / cancellations, any accidents / medical evacuations, riots/strikes/war, & etc.
- Anything not specifically mentioned under the head “Tour Package Inclusions”.
- Any expenses incurred on extra transport or extra / optional tours.
- Room service & additional meals.
- Medical & Travel insurance.
GENERAL TERMS & CONDITIONS
- The tour costs are based on sharing of the vehicle by 02, 04 or 06 persons, as the case may be, for transfers & sightseeing / touring.
- Tour costs shall be based on accommodation in standard category rooms at all hotels.
- 25% advance (Non Refundable) to be deposited in our account for tour booking.
- Next 50% of the tour cost is to be deposited at least 10 days before departure for Leh.
- Balance 25% of the tour cost has to be paid at the time of checking in at the hotel in Leh.
- Children of 10 years and above age will be charged as adult.
- Hotels / camps listed under the package are indicative and subject to availability only.
- All bookings and confirmations are subject to availability of accommodation.
